The Hennepin County Jail Roster is the main tool for searching 24 hour booking records. It gets updated every hour. You can search by name or booking number. The roster shows up to 90 days of records, covering both people currently in jail and those who were released in the past week.

The roster shows a lot of detail for each booking. You get the person's full legal name and any known aliases. It shows their date of birth, age, physical description, and identifying marks. There is a booking photo for each person. The record also lists the booking number, the date and time of booking, the arresting agency, and all current charges with statute numbers. Case numbers, warrant info, bond amounts, court of jurisdiction, scheduled court dates, housing assignment, and projected release date are all there too.

There is one thing to be aware of. If someone is still in the intake process, they might not show up on the roster yet. They need a booking number before they appear in the system. If you think someone was arrested but cannot find them, wait a bit and try again. You can also call the jail at 612-348-5112.

Hennepin County Booking Records and Public Access

Arrest and booking data in Hennepin County is public under the Minnesota Government Data Practices Act. Statute 13.82 makes key booking data available to anyone who asks. That includes the time and date of arrest, the charges, the person's name, age, sex, and last known address, and whether they are in custody. Booking photos are public too. Law enforcement can hold them back temporarily if releasing them would hurt an active investigation, but this is an exception rather than the norm.

The Hennepin County Records Division handles data requests. You can visit them at 350 South 5th Street, Room 6, in Minneapolis. Call 612-348-3744 during business hours. Written requests are also accepted. If the data you want is public, the office must provide it within a reasonable time. There may be a fee for copies.

Note: Criminal investigative data is confidential while a case is open. It becomes public once the investigation is closed or the statute of limitations expires.

How 24 Hour Booking Works in Hennepin County

When someone is brought to the Hennepin County Jail, the booking process begins at intake. Officers take fingerprints, a booking photo, and personal information. They check for warrants and prior records in the system. All charges from the arresting officer are logged. The 24 hour booking requirement under Statute 299C.10 means the fingerprint data must be entered into the BCA database within one day of being collected. In a county this large, the volume of daily bookings is high, so the process runs nonstop.

Each person booked into the jail also gets checked against the state predatory offender registry. Under Statute 641.05, the sheriff must report any matches to the BCA and collect a change of address form when registered offenders are released. The sheriff is also required to keep a permanent record of everyone in the jail and give the District Court a certified report at the start of each term. Failing to do so on purpose is a gross misdemeanor.

Hennepin County may charge booking fees under Statute 641.12. If charges are later dismissed or the person is acquitted, they can ask for a refund as long as no other fees are owed.
